Hardship Licenses

If you have been convicted for more than one DUI offense and have lost your driver’s license, you may be eligible to apply for a hardship license. A hardship license is a special driver’s license that allows the holder to drive for certain, necessary reasons. This is issued either as a business hardship license (for use to drive to and from work, school, the doctor, and to buy groceries) or as an employment hardship license (for exclusive use in driving to and from work and for work-related tasks.)

If you have been convicted of multiple DUI offenses, your driver’s license will be suspended for anywhere from 180 days to permanently. The loss of a driver’s license is a terrible blow to one’s livelihood and future. Florida law is extremely strict regarding multiple DUI offenders, but all hope is not lost.

The experienced DUI attorneys at Leavengood & Nash will be able to advise you if you are eligible for a hardship license. We will represent you through the application process to increase your chances of driving again.

Hardship License Qualifications in Florida

There are several qualifying factors that will determine your eligibility for a hardship license. You may be eligible to apply for a hardship license if:

  • After a 2nd DUI conviction, you wait a period of one year
  • After a 3rd DUI conviction, you wait a period of two years
  • You finish Multiple Offender School requirements
  • You have stayed alcohol and drug-free
  • Any other requirements by the court: such as proof that you finished all classes, counseling, etc.

Do you meet all of the above requirements? If so, you may be able to get a hardship license that will allow you to drive.
